Just two days after losing their first conference match of the season,
the No. 25 Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team had six different players
find the back of the net as the Titans got back on track with a 6-1 rout
of Big West Conference rival UC Irvine on Sunday afternoon at Anteater
Stadium in Irvine, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton improved to 11-2-1 overall and 5-1 in the Big West
Conference. UC Irvine fell to 6-7-1, 3-1-1.
The Titans outshot the Anteaters 22-19 and 11-9 in shots in goal. Freshman
goalkeeper Karen Bardsley (Chino Hills, Calif.) allowed the lone goal
while making eight saves on the afternoon.
Of Cal State Fullerton's six goals on the day, five of them were of the
unassisted variety starting with the first goal of the match by freshman
Ashley O'Brien (Huntington Beach, Calif.) in the 11th minute of the match.
Senior Lindsey Glick (Torrance, Calif.) scored her first goal of the season
-- and the eventual game-winner -- in the 26th minute, taking a pass from
sophomore Kellie Cox (Lancaster, Calif.) for the 2-0 lead.
UC Irvine cut the lead to 2-1 just under a minute later when Kim Lloyd
took a pass from Caroline Kabe.
It stayed that way until the second half when the Titan offense exploded.
Unassisted goals by freshman Erica Pryor (Upland, Calif.), sophomore Erica
Jacalone (Temple City, Calif.), freshman Kandace Wilson (Walnut, Calif.)
and Desiree Flint (Redondo Beach, Calif.) completed the scoring for the
Titans in the 6-1 victory.
Wilson's goal was her team-leading seventh of the season while Pryor and
Glick got on the board for the first time this season. Those goals gave
the Titans 14 different goal scorers this season.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action next Sunday (Oct. 27) when the Titans
open a season-ending four-match homestand with a contest against Fresno
State at 1 p.m. at Titan Stadium.
