Cal State Fullerton freshman Allison
Bowman (Diamond Bar, Calif.) scored her third goal of the sesaon in
the 77th minute to lift the No. 25 Titans to a 2-1 Big West Conference
victory over visiting Utah State on Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium.
Cal State Fullerton improved to 10-1-1 overall on the season, 4-0 in Big
West Conference action while Utah State fell to 6-7-2, 0-4.
The Titans tied the school record for the longest unbeaten streak in the
history of the program, extending their streak to eight matches (7-0-1)
with the victory, and matched the school record with their seventh consecutive
win, equalling the mark set during last season.
Cal State Fullerton also won its 13th consecutive match within the friendly
confines of Titan Stadium dating back to the 2001 season.
Utah State got on the board first in the 23rd minute, as Brigid Turner
took a back pass from Amber Tracy inside the box, and buried it far post
from six yards out past the diving Titan goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.
The Titans evened the score in the 42nd minute of the match as sophomore
Kellie Cox (Lancaster, Calif.)
sent a sweeping cross into the box where it was knocked to the ground
by junior Nadia Hernandez (Pomona, Calif.), who pushed it to the waiting
Erica Jacalone (Temple City, Calif.),
who chipped it over the goalkeeper.
The match remained tied until the 77th minute as Bowman took a short pass
from freshman Erin Shelton (Rialto,
Calif.) and rocketed the ball past the outstretched keeper from 25 yards
out for the game-winner.
Cal State Fullerton held an 18-13 advantage in shots and a 9-6 lead in
shots on goal.
The Titans return to action next weekend as they travel to Long Beach
State on Friday (Oct. 18) for a 3 p.m. kick-off before heading south to
take on UC Irvine on Sunday (Oct. 20) at 1 p.m.
