Jacalone's Late Score Forges Tie with Huskies
Sept. 15, 2002 – Fullerton, Calif.

Box Score

Cal State Fullerton sophomore Erica Jacalone (Temple City, Calif.) headed home a goal off a long cross from teammate Jenny Mescher (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and the Titan defense withstood 24 shots from the Washington offense through regulation and two overtimes as the Titans forged a 1-1 tie with the No. 12 Huskies on Sunday afternoon in the final day of action at the Nike Portland Invitational in Portland, Ore.

The Titans improved to 3-1-1 overall while the Huskies fell to 3-2-1 overall on the year. Both teams finished with an 0-1-1 record in tournament play this weekend.

Washington got on the board first at the 14:03 mark of the opening period as Melissa Bennett converted on a penalty kick to make it 1-0.

In the second half, freshman goalkeeper Karen Bardsley (Chino Hills, Calif.) kept her side in the match, facing 12 shots and making eight saves, but it was Jacalone who found the back of the net in the 69th minute heading home the tying goal off Mescher's cross that was deflected in the box by the Huskies defense.

Bardsley finished the match with 12 saves, including two in the first overtime, just two days removed from her 12-save effort against No. 6 Portland on Friday night.

Washington held a 24-5 advantage in shots and a 13-3 lead in shots on goal.

The Titans return to action on Friday (Sept. 20) when they host Loyola (Md.) at 7 p.m.
