2002 Women's
Soccer Coaches
How about that for a first impression? After spending four years as an assistant coach under Director of Soccer Al Mistri, second year Titan head womens soccer coach Ali Khosroshahin did something that no other coach could do in the nine-year history of the program clinch the schools first-ever conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Not bad for your first head coaching job. As a result, Khosroshahin was named the 2001 Big West Conference Coach of the Year and finished second in the voting to Saint Marys head coach Paul Ratcliffe for West Region Coach of the Year as selected by Soccer Buzz. Appointed as the interim head coach in March of 2001 after Mistri stepped aside to concentrate on coaching the Titan mens squad, Khosroshahin was named the permanent head coach immediately following a national search at the conclusion of the season in November of 2001. Not a stranger to the coaching ranks, Khosroshahin has a wealth of experience under his belt ranging from club to international matches in his young career. He began in 1992 as the head coach of the boys varsity team at Canyon High School in Anaheim Hills, where he would earn Century League Coach of the Year honors in 1993. He moved on to San Marino High School in 1994, spending two seasons as the girls varsity head coach until 1995. While at San Marino, Khosroshahin broke into the collegiate coaching ranks, serving as a graduate assistant for the mens soccer team at his alma mater, Cal State Los Angeles. In 1994, Khosroshahin helped lead the Golden Eagles to the NCAA Division II mens soccer playoffs and, in 1995, was hired as a permanent assistant coach, where he served until 1997. He returned to the Titan soccer program in 1997 (where he spent two seasons as a player for the Titan mens team from 1989-91) and helped lead the Cal State Fullerton mens team to the 1998 and the 2000 NCAA Division I mens soccer playoffs. Internationally, Khosroshahin has been active, serving as an assistant coach for the Mexican womens national team and as a head coach and scout for the US Olympic Development Program. In 1999, he had the opportunity to assist head coach Leonardo Cuellar with the US womens national team during the US Womens Indoor Soccer Victory Tour following their 1999 Womens World Cup championship. Khosroshahin also had the opportunity to coach the US National Team during a match in Tacoma, Wash. Khosroshahin has coached numerous club teams at various age levels while also participating in numerous soccer camps. One of his club teams, the Upland Celtics (girls U-13), won the Far West Regional Championship in the summer of 1998. Khosroshahin, a two-year letterwinner under Mistri from 1989-91 for the Cal State Fullerton mens team, transferred to Cal State Los Angeles to finish the final two years of his collegiate career. Aside from his college playing experience, Khosroshahin spent two years (1994-96) with the semi-pro Standard Falcons in the USISL and played for the Valley Eagles in 1997. Khosroshahin graduated from Cal State Los Angeles in 1994 with a bachelors degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing management. He earned his C coaching license from the US Soccer Federation in 1998 and received his B coaching license in 2001. This past summer, Khosroshahin earned his A coaching license from the US Soccer Federation. He will begin studying for his masters degree in sports psychology in the fall of 2002. Fluent in Farsi, Khosroshahin currently resides in Diamond Bar, Calif.
