Soccer Signs Five to Letters of Intent April 4, 2003 Fullerton, Calif. The Cal State Fullerton womens soccer team signed five players to national letters of intent to compete for the Titans in the 2003 season, Head Coach Ali Khosroshahin announced on Friday. Lauryn Welch, a midfielder who prepped at Troy HS across the street from Cal State Fullerton, was an All-Freeway League honoree the last three seasons, earning All-CIF honors as a junior and senior. Welch was the Freeway League Player of the Year as a senior, scoring 14 goals and tallying 14 assists in leading the Warriors to a 21-1-1 record and a 10-0 league mark. Lauryn is a versatile player and has a wealth of championship experience, Khosroshahin said. I believe that she can have an immediate impact on the program. Erica Janke (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS) will join her older sister, Laura, on the 2003 Titan roster, marking the first time in the history of the program that siblings will be on the same team at the same time. Erica was a two-time all-league honoree as a freshman and sophomore before earning league Defensive MVP and All-CIF honors as a junior. Erica will bring more skill to our program, Khosroshahin said. She will give our returners a serious challenge for the outside back and outside midfield positions. We are very fortunate to have Erica here with us. Allyson Lem (Corona, Calif./Temescal Canyon HS) will shore up Cal State Fullertons defense in 2003 after earning second-team All-CIF honors as a freshman. She was a member of the ODP National Champions in 2001 and the ODP Region IV Pool in 2000. Allyson is a teammate of Lauryns and she will bring a great deal of championship experience to our program, Khosroshahin said. Ally will help shore up the central defender positions with the graduation of Lindsey Glick. I am very happy to have Allyson representing the Titan colors next season. Jennifer Whitaker (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield HS) and Danielle Ghaffari (Henderson, Nev./Bishop Gorman HS) enter Cal State Fullerton as part of a select group. The duo joins three other Titans in the history of the program to come to the university from outside the state of California. Jennifer can score goals. She too will bring more skill to our program, Khosroshahin said. We are becoming a more attractive school for the serious soccer players from out of state, like Jennifer and Danielle. Whitaker joins the Titans after a stellar four-year career at Plainfield HS in Indiana. Whitaker did not miss a game in her four-year career, earning honorable mention all-state honors as a senior after scoring 28 goals (10th in the state) and 21 assists (sixth in the state). Whitaker finished her career as the Quakers all-time leading scorer. Ghaffari will add depth to the Fullerton goalkeeping corps after playing three years for Bishop Gorman HS, missing her senior year due to injury. She helped lead the Gaels to a runner-up state finish as a freshman while earning all-state and All-Southern Nevada honors as a sophomore and junior. Danielle will add depth to a very solid goalkeeping position here at Fullerton, Khosroshahin said. We believe Danielle will redshirt her first year with the program, but she has the ability to challenge for a starting position. Cal State Fullerton opens the 2003 season on August 30 when the Titans host Farleigh Dickenson, UC Irvine, San Diego State and the Mexican Womens National Team in the second-annual SOCCER TOWN Classic at Titan Stadium. 2003 CAL STATE FULLERTON WOMENS SOCCER SIGNEES
