Wilson Scores Twice as Titans Rout BSU, 4-1

Sophomore Kandace Wilson notched a pair of second half goals and freshman Lauryn Welch tallied a pair of assists on the day as Cal State Fullerton defeated Boise State, 4-1, in in a non-conference women's soccer match-up in front of 213 fans at Titan Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Titans won their second straight match after a two-match losing streak, improving their record to 5-2 overall on the year. The Broncos lost their second straight match, falling to 2-7 overall on the season.

Fullerton outshot Boise State, 18-4, including a 12-2 advantage in the second half despite heavy offensive pressure from the Broncos.

The Titans wasted no time in getting on the board in the third minute of the match as Erica Pryor got a toe on Welch's cross, scooting it past BSU goalkeeper Kim Parker for her second goal of the year and a 1-0 lead.

The goal, which came at the 2:44 mark, was the ninth fastest goal scored in Cal State Fullerton history.

Boise State evened things up in the 31st minute when Cassidy Temple lofted a ball behind the Titans' defense, finding the feet of Abbe Roche in the box, who chipped it over a leaping Laura Janke to knot the score at 1-1.

Sophomore Ashley O'Brien regained the lead for the Titans just before the half on Welch's second assist of the match. Welch's corner kick went through the legs of a Titan player in the box to the feet of O'Brien, who got it just over the line before being cleared by a Broncos defender standing on the line.

Sophomore Kandace Wilson added her fourth goal of the season in the 68th minute, taking a long pass from sophomore Erin Shelton and beating the goalkeeper 1-on-1 to the far right post, extending the Titans' lead to 3-1.

Wilson added an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute, curling a ball to the netting on the far right post after a long run to cap the scoring and cement the 4-1 victory.

Cal State Fullerton peppered Parker with 12 shots on goal, forcing the Boise State keeper to make eight saves on the day. The Titans' Laura Janke, who made seven saves in a shutout of No. 13 Clemson on Friday, faced just four shots and did not make a save.

Roche led the Broncos with a pair of shots while Wilson paced Fullerton's offense with seven shots on the afternoon. Seven different Titans had shots on goal for the match.

Despite the victory, Cal State Fullerton suffered a setback, losing sophomore Desiree Flint to injury when she slipped on the turf and rolled her ankle. She is tentatively out 1-3 weeks and will be reevaluated later this week.

The Titans return to action on Friday (Sept. 26) when they open Big West Conference play against UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. at UCSB's Harder Stadium. Fullerton then returns home on Sunday (Sept. 28) to take on the Oregon Ducks of the Pacific-10 Conference at 1 p.m. at Titan Stadium.
