Coaches Pick Titans Third in Preseason Poll August 13, 2003 -- Fullerton, Calif.
The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team was picked to finish third
in the Big West Conference in 2003 according to a poll of the conference's
coaches released on Wednesday by the league office.
The Titans earned two first-place votes and finished with 82 points, seven
points behind defending league champion Cal Poly, which earned four first-place
votes and 89 points overall.
UC Santa Barbara, which finished second in the Big West in 2002, returns
five all-conference selections, including the Big West Offensive Player
of the Year in Krystal Sandza, was chosen to win the conference, earning
four first-place nods and 92 points overall.
UC Irvine was picked to finish fourth, one point ahead of Long Beach State.
Pacific and UC Riverside follow in sixth and seventh while Cal State Northridge,
Idaho and Utah State round out the poll.
Cal State Fullerton opens the 2003 season with an exhibition match against
the Mexican National Team on Thursday (Aug. 28) at 7 p.m., before opening
the regular season against Fairleigh Dickinson on Monday (Sept. 1) at
3 p.m.
