Janke Named Big West Co-Player of the Week Sept. 22, 2003 -- Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton senior goalkeeper
Laura Janke (Simi Valley, Calif.) was named the Big West Conference's
Co-Player of the Week on Monday morning after a pair of stellar performances
against Clemson and Boise State this past weekend.
She shared the honor with UC Irvine goalkeeper Marissa Welliver.
It is Janke's first career player of the week honor and the second for
a Titan this season after sophomore Kandace Wilson won the award on Sept.
8. Janke becomes the ninth Fullerton player to win the award since the
2001 season.
Janke was 2-0 for the week with seven saves and a shutout against the
nationally-ranked Tigers, including a stop on a first-half penalty kick
to keep the match scoreless. She allowed just one goal and faced only
four shots in a 4-1 win over the Broncos.
The Titans return to action on Friday night (Sept. 26) as they travel
to UC Santa Barbara to open the Big West schedule at 7 p.m. at Harder
Stadium. Fullerton them returns home on Sunday (Sept. 28) to host the
Oregon Ducks at Titan Stadium at 1 p.m.
