Starts In Net as England Defeats Sweden July 26, 2003 Cal State Fullerton sophomore goalkeeper Karen Bardsley made her debut in net for the England U-19 Women's National Team on Friday, helping lead her side to a 2-1 victory over Sweden in the opening match for both teams at the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championships in Leipzig, Germany. Bardsley allowed her only goal in the 57th minute of the match to tie the match, but later saved a couple of one-on-one chances to preserve the tie and give England the chance to win. England will have Saturday off before facing Italy, a 2-0 winner over host and defending champion Germany, on Sunday.
