Pair of Titans to Represent Mexico at '04 Olympics
Mar. 23, 2004 -- Fullerton, Calif.

Cal State Fullerton sophomore defender Marlene Sandoval and former midfielder Nadia Hernandez will bring Cal State Fullerton to the world stage this summer as members of the Mexican Women's National Soccer Team at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

The pair become the second and third Titans to head to Greece this summer, joining former Titan softball catcher Jenny Topping. Current Titans centerfielder Lindsey Bashor is on the pre-Olympic roster for the Greek National Team with final roster decisions coming in June.

Mexico qualified by finishing second to the United States in CONCACAF qualifying, rolling to victories over Haiti (5-0) and Trinidad & Tobago (8-1) before upsetting Canada, 2-1, in the semifinals and narrowly falling to the U.S. in the finals (3-2).

It will be the first time that Mexico will compete in the Olympic Football Tournament.

Mexico joins the United States, reigning world champions Germany, Sweden, Greece, Australia, and Brazil in the tournament with three spots yet to be decided.

The competition runs from August 11-28, 2004.
