Behind an early goal from sophomore midfielder Kelsey Quane and a strong
defensive performance, the No. 6 Pepperdine women's soccer team registered
a 1-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton Friday afternoon at Tari Frahm
Rokus Field.
The win improved Pepperdine to 9-2-0 on the season and marked the team's
eighth shutout of the season, moving the Waves to within one of tying
the single-season record of nine established in 2000.
Cal State Fullerton dropped to 6-4-0 on the year and has been shutout
in each of its four losses this season, outscored by its opponents, 9-0,
in those matches.
Quane scored at the 9:44 mark when she took a cross from sophomore forward
Megan Woods in the front of the goal and drilled a shot past Cal State
Fullerton goalkeeper Laura Janke.
In a match that was dominated by defense, Pepperdine outshot Cal State
Fullerton, 11-5, including a 5-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.
The Titans close out the weekend with a Big West Conference match on the
road at UC Riverside at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 5).
