Go Out Winners as Titans Prevail 3-1 Nov. 2, 2003 -- Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Cal State Fullerton's Erica Pryor and Lauryn Welch each had a goal and an assist on the afternoon, including Pryor's game-winner in the 60th minute, lifting the Titans to a 3-1 victory over UC Irvine in the regular season finale for both teams on Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium in front of 415 fans. Cal State Fullerton finished the year 9-8-2 overall (including 7-1-1 at home) and 3-5-1 in the Big West Conference. UC Irvine, which had been unbeaten in its last seven matches, fell to 10-4-5 overall, 4-2-3 in league play. Pryor's game-winner came at the 59:33 mark, as Welch's corner kick went untouched in the box and bounced to the feet of Pryor, who chipped it over the UCI goalkeeper's head for the lead and her fourth goal of the year. Two days after scoring her first career goal against Long Beach State, Welch added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute as she collected a cross from Erin Shelton and put away the rebound off her own shot for a 3-1 lead which would never be threatened. In the first half, sophomore Kandace Wilson, who sat out Friday night's 2-1 loss to Long Beach State due to a red card suspension, wasted no time in getting back into the swing of things, scoring at the 2:54 mark for the quick 1-0 Titan lead. Pryor's pass from the top of the box was collected by a wide-open Wilson on the left side of the box and fired to the far right post, beating a diving Marissa Welliver for the goal. Wilson's goal was the 10th fastest in the history of the program and the second Titan goal this season to be scored in under three minutes, joining Erica Pryor's strike against Boise State at the 2:44 mark. Wilson and her 10 goals this year rank in a tie for sixth on the single-season goal charts. UC Irvine was not to be outdone, however, getting the goal back just six minutes later. Britney Webster took a pass from Caroline Kabe near the top of the box and fired it past a diving Laura Janke to the far left post from about 25 yards out to knot the match at 1-1. It was Webster's third goal of the season. Janke, playing in her final match in a Titan uniform, was sent out a winner as she made three saves before being replaced in the final three minutes of the match. Janke and fellow senior Nadia Hernandez were honored in prematch ceremonies for their contirbutions to Titans soccer. Welliver made three saves for the Anteaters. Fullerton outshot Irvine 14-11 and had 15 fouls to the Anteaters' nine. Sunday's match ended the regular season for the Titans, however, there is still more soccer to be played at Titan Stadium. Cal State Fullerton will host the 2003 Big West Conference Women's Soccer Championships on Nov. 7 & 9, as the top four teams in the standings battle it out for the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
