Utah State's Amber Tracy had a goal and an assist on Friday afternoon
to lead the Aggies to a 2-0 shutout victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton
at Bell Field in Logan, Utah.
Cal State Fullerton fell to 8-6-2 overall, 2-3-1 in the Big West Conference,
falling further behind in the race for one of four berths in the 2003
Big West Conference women's soccer tournament. Utah State improved to
10-5-1, 4-1-1.
The Titans have been shutout in all six of their losses this season, tying
the school record for times shutout in a season set in 1993 and 1997.
Fullerton fell to 0-5-1 on the road this season (compared to 6-0-1 at
home) and has been outscored 11-1 away from Titan Stadium.
Tracy's game-winning goal came in the 33rd minute
of the match when her inital shot caromed off the cross bar and she put
back the rebound for the 1-0 advantage.
Tracy assisted on Chanel Blaquiere's goal in the 77th minute to ice the
match, as Blaquiere headed home Tracy's cross for the final 2-0 score.
The Titans were outshot for the fourth time in their last five matches
as the Aggies put up 14 shots to Fullerton's 13. Senior goalkeeper Laura
Janke made five saves on the day in the loss while Utah State's Megan
Mills earned her ninth shutout of the year and also made five saves.
Sophomore Marlene Sandoval led the Titans with four shots, while freshman
Erica Janke had three shots on the day.
The Titans return to action on Sunday (Oct. 26) at 1 p.m. PST as they
travel to Moscow, Idaho, to take on the last place Idaho Vandals, who
lost to UC Riverside on Friday, 2-0.
