Kandace Wilson booted in a loose ball near the left post with about 8
minutes to play Sunday afternoon to give Cal State Fullerton a 1-0 women's
soccer victory over visiting Cal State Northridge.
The win lifted Fullerton's record to 8-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in
the Big West Conference. The Matadors fell to 3-9-3 an 1-5-0.
Marlene Sandoval lofted a free kick from the right wing that CSUN goalkeeper
Jen Jasper failed to control and Wilson pounced on the opportunity for
her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Laura Janke earned the shutout
and had 4 saves in the process.
Wilson played only about half the match due to a leg injury, but she was
in the right place at the right time as the Titans got back into the Big
West race with a pair of 1-0 victories this week (Friday over Pacific).
Northridge outshot the Titans, 12-5, as Jasper needed to make only 2 saves.
The Titans travel this week to Utah State and Idaho while the Matadors
host Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara.
