2003 Women's
Soccer Coaches
Cal State Fullerton head coach Ali Khosroshahin enters his third season in charge of the Titans womens soccer program, turning around a fledgling program and establishing Cal State Fullerton as an up-and-coming competitior in the national spotlight. After spending four years as an assistant under Al Mistri, Khosroshahin has guided Cal State Fullerton to heights never before seen on the Orange County campus, leading the Titans to the schools first-ever Big West Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament in his first full season. For his efforts, Khosroshahin was named the Big West Coach of the Year and finished second in the voting for West Region Coach of the Year behind then-Saint Marys coach Paul Ratcliffe (who has since moved on to become the head coach at Stanford in 2003) as selected by Soccer Buzz. Appointed as the interim head coach in March of 2001 after Mistri stepped aside to concentrate on coaching the Titan mens squad, Khosroshahin was named the permanent head coach immediately following a national search at the conclusion of the season in November of 2001. No stranger to the coaching ranks, Khosroshahin has a wide range of experience from club to international matches in his young career. He began in 1992 as the head coach of the boys varsity team at Canyon High School in Anaheim Hills, where he earned Century League Coach of the Year honors in 1993. He moved on to San Marino High School in 1994, spending two seasons as the girls varsity head coach until 1995. While at San Marino, Khosroshahin broke into the collegiate coaching ranks, serving as a graduate assistant for the mens soccer team at his alma mater, Cal State Los Angeles. In 1994, Khosroshahin helped lead the Golden Eagles to the NCAA Division II mens soccer playoffs and, in 1995, was hired as a permanent assistant coach, where he served until 1997. He returned to the Titan soccer program in 1997 and helped lead the Cal State Fullerton mens team to the 1998 and the 2000 NCAA Division I mens soccer playoffs. Internationally, Khosroshahin has been active, serving as an assistant coach for the Mexican womens national team during the 1999 Womens World Cup and as a head coach and scout for the U.S. Olympic Development Program. In 1999, he had the opportunity to assist head coach Leonardo Cuellar with the U.S. womens national team during the U.S. Womens Indoor Soccer Victory Tour following their 1999 Womens World Cup title. Khosroshahin also had the opportunity to coach the U.S. National Team during a match in Tacoma, Wash. Khosroshahin has coached numerous club teams at various age levels while also participating in numerous soccer camps. One of his club teams, the Upland Celtics (girls U-13), won the Far West Regional title in the summer of 1998. Khosroshahin, a two-year letterwinner under Mistri from 1989-91 for the Cal State Fullerton mens team, transferred to Cal State Los Angeles to finish the final two years of his collegiate career. Aside from his college playing experience, Khosroshahin spent two years (1994-96) with the semi-pro Standard Falcons in the USISL and played for the Valley Eagles in 1997. He earned his C coaching license from the US Soccer Federation in 1998 and received his B coaching license in 2001. During the summer of 2002, Khosroshahin earned his A coaching license from the US Soccer Federation. This past summer he was a guest lecturer at the Pan American Organizations Continental Course in Womens Soccer hosted by the Honduran Olympic Committee in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Khosroshahin graduated from Cal State Los Angeles in 1994 with a bachelors degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing management. He is currently pursuing his masters degree in sports psychology at Cal State Fullerton. Fluent in Farsi, Khosroshahin currently resides in Diamond Bar, Calif.
