Cox, Bardsley Headline Titan All-Big West Honors
Nov. 9, 2004 – Fullerton, Calif.

Complete All-Big West Teams

Cal State Fullerton placed a league-best five players on the All-Big West Conference first team while junior Kellie Cox and sophomore Karen Bardsley each earned individual honors as the league released its all-conference teams for the 2004 season on Tuesday afternoon.

Cox (Lancaster, Calif.) was named the inaugural Big West Midfielder of the Year and added her second career first-team honor after finishing the season with four goals, three assists and 11 points. Cox missed all but one match last season after suffering an injury in the season opener against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Bardsley (Chino Hills, Calif.), who missed the team's first eight matches of the season recovering from a broken leg, was named the Big West Goalkeeper of the Year and also earned a berth on the first team after posting a 7-3-1 record in net with a 0.71 goals against average.

Joining the duo on the first team were juniors Kandace Wilson (Walnut, Calif.) and Marlene Sandoval (Placentia, Calif.) along with senior Vanessa Valentine (Encinitas, Calif.).

Wilson, who earned first-team honors for the second-straight season, was the team's leading scorer with 10 goals and an assist (21 points). She finished the regular season fourth in the conference in points and third in goals, points per game (1.17), and goals per game (0.56).

Sandoval, who finished the year with a goal and an assist, earned first-team honors for the first time in her career after being named to the second team in 2003 and was an honorable mention selection in 2002.

Valentine also earned her first career first-team honor after twice being named to the honorable mention squad (2002-03) and a 2001 second-team honor.

Sandoval and Valentine led the Titan defense to a pair of school records in 2004, holding opponents to the fewest goals in a single-season (18), breaking the previous mark of 21 set in 2002, and the fewest shots allowed in a season (183), which had stood since 1994 (189).

Junior midfielder Erin Shelton (Rialto, Calif.) earned her first career all-conference honor, earning second-team laurels after finishing the year with a goal and three assists.
