Cal State Fullerton junior Kandace Wilson scored a pair of unassisted
goals on the night to help lift the visiting Titans to a 3-1 Big West
Conference women's soccer victory over Pacific on Friday night.
Fullerton improved to 6-7-1 overall, winning three of its last four matches,
and moved to 2-1-1 in the Big West. Pacific, which entered the match unbeaten
in conference play, fell to 6-4-4 overall and 2-1-2 in league action.
For Wilson, it was her first goals since scoring a hat trick in a 3-1
win over Fresno State back on Aug. 29. The pair of goals on Friday night
gave her 22 for her career, good for a tie for third on the school's all-time
list, and 50 career points, which are good for a tie for fourth on the
career list.
Wilson scored Fullerton's first goal of the match in the 13th minute while
Kosena netted the eventual game-winner in the 70th minute of play.
Wilson put in an insurance goal with 20 seconds to play as she was able
to take advantage of the Tigers going for the equalizer by pulling freshman
Jaime Souza up out of net and into the fray of a Pacific corner.
When the ball was finally cleared, Wilson found herself on a breakaway
counterattack into an open net.
The Titans outshot the Tigers, 28-6, including a 19-4 margin in the second
half. Nine different Fullerton players had shots on the night, including
seven by Kosena. Sophomore Karen Bardsley made two saves in net in the
victory.
The Titans return to Southern California on Sunday (Oct. 17) to take on
Cal State Northridge at Matador Field at 2:30 p.m.. ####
