Cal Poly's Kelsey Carroll slammed home a corner kick from teammate Stephanie
Hedien in the 39th minute and the defense took it from there as the Mustangs
defeated Cal State Fullerton, 1-0, on Friday night in the semifinals of
the Big West Conference Tournament at Anteater Stadium in Irvine, Calif.
The Titans finished the season with an 11-8-1 overall record and a co-Big
West Conference championship. Fullerton has advanced to the Big West Tournament
three times and have been eliminated by Cal Poly in the first round each
time.
Cal Poly improved to 10-2-6 overall and will meet UC Santa Barbara on
Sunday at 1 p.m. for the tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
The championship match will be televised locally by KVMD.
Hedien's corner went to the far left post where it found the feet of Carroll,
who slammed it to the side netting for the only tally of the match.
Both teams finished with 12 shots on the night while the Titans were led
by junior Kandace Wilson, who had three shots on the night.
Cal Poly keeper Liz Hill had four saves in the shutout while Fullerton
keeper Karen Bardsley also finished with four saves.
