Pepperdine junior Jenna Fodor tapped home a
saved shot in the 53rd minute on Friday night, lifting the No. 21 Waves
to a 1-0 season-opening victory over host Cal State Fullerton at Titan
Stadium.
Fullerton opens the year at 0-1 while Pepperdine improves to 1-0.
The initial cross came courtesy of Jennifer Brewer and was put on goal
by the Waves' Ali Pavoni. Titan keeper Nicole Williams, who was making
her first career start, made a nice diving save, but Fodor found the rebound
on the back post, tipping it past two Titan defenders at the goal line
for the lone tally of the match.
A defensive first half saw more fouls (12) than shots (9), but the Titans
held an 8-1 shot advantage in the opening period en route to a 19-7 margin
for the match.
Williams finished with two saves while Pepperdine's Anna Picarelli stopped
six of her own. Juniors Kellie Cox and Lisa Kosena led the Titans with
four shots apiece.
The Titans return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 29) for a 1 p.m.
kickoff against former conference rival Fresno State at Titan Stadium.
