Titans-Highlanders Play to Scoreless Tie
Oct. 1, 2004 – Fullerton, Calif.

Box Score

The Cal State Fullerton women’s soccer team outshot visiting UC Riverside, 28-5, but neither team could find the back of the net as the Titans and Highlanders played to a scoreless tie on Friday night in the Big West Conference opener for both teams at Titan Stadium.

Cal State Fullerton improved to 3-6-1 overall, 0-0-1 in the Big West, while UC Riverside is 9-0-1 overall, 0-0-1 in the Big West.

It is the first scoreless tie in Fullerton women’s soccer history and the first overtime match of the year for both sides.

The Titans held the advantage in shots in every period, including a 10-1 lead in the first half and a combined 8-0 advantage in the two overtimes.

Fullerton had what was thought to be the only score of the contest in the 25th minute, but the tally was disallowed. Junior Kellie Cox (Lancaster, Calif.), who had three of Fullerton’s 10 shots in the period, tapped in the rebound off a cross. However, the score was waved off after Erin Shelton (Rialto, Calif.) collided with Riverside goalkeeper Tawny Poggio, who was attempting to clear the ball.

In the first overtime, Cal State Fullerton had a pair of golden chances as Kandace Wilson (Walnut, Calif.) and Cox both had wide open looks, but could not find the back of the net, pushing both shots just wide of the net.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 3) when they hit the road to meet UC Davis. Kick off is scheduled for Noon.
