UC Santa Barbara senior Jennifer Borcich tallied her ninth goal of the
season in the 74th minute and goalkeeper Catherine Burson made seven saves
on the night to lift the Gauchos to the 1-0 victory on Friday at Titan
Stadium.
Fullerton falls to 4-7-1 overall, 0-1-1 in the Big West. UCSB improves
to 8-4-1 and remains unbeaten in conference play at 3-0.
Borcich was set up perfectly by teammate Randi Johns, who made the short
pass to the middle of the penalty area, giving Borcich a wide open strike.
The ball sailed past Fullerton keeper Karen Bardsley into the upper right
hand corner for the only tally of the match.
The Titans outshot the Gauchos, 17-8, and had seven corners to none for
UCSB, but could not find the back of the net as Fullerton was shutout
for the sixth time this season -- just one off the school record of seven
set during the 2003 season.
Kandace Wilson led the Titans with four shots on the night while Bardsley
made two saves in the loss.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 10) at
1 p.m. as they take on defending conference champion Cal Poly at Titan
Stadium.
