Stanford Dominates Season-Opening XC Meet AUG. 31, 2002 Brea, Calif.
Stanford swept both the men's and women's competition with near-perfect
scores at the Cal State Fullerton "Season Opener" Invitational
cross country meet Saturday morning at Carbon Canyon Park.
The Cardinal men tallied 17 points to win, placing first, second, third,
fifth and sixth despite the absence of a few of their top runners. The
Cardinal women tallied 19 points by placing first, second, third, fourth
and ninth. Adam Tenforde won the 8K race in 24:44.40 while Alicia Craig
and Sara Bei ran across the finish line of the 5K together in front at
17:01.70.
The host Titans of Cal State Fullerton placed fourth in the men's competition
with 130 points. The CSF women were seventh with 204 points. Jordan Horn
paced the Titan men with a time of 25:46.70, good for 17th place, while
Lakeysha mcClenton was the top CSF female in 19:08.40 for 34th place.
The top five teams: Men - Stanford 17, Cal Coast Track Club 74, UCLA 125,
Cal State Fullerton 130 and UC Riverside 148. Women - Stanford 19, UCLA
43, UC Santa Barbara 129, Cal Coast Track Club 131 and USC 157.
