Titans Pick Up a Pair of Thirds at Long Beach Oct. 18, 2003 Long Beach, Calif.
Bryce Lighthall ran sixth to pace the men and Lakeysha McClenton was 12th
to lead the Titan women Saturday morning as both Cal State Fullerton teams
finished third at the Long Beach Invitational.
Lighthall ran the 8K in 26:04 and was followed closely by teammates Jordan
Horn in eighth at 26:18 and Evan Geisert in 17th at 26:47. Backing up
McClenton (23:49) was Pam Roque, 14th in the 6K at 23:55.
"We got away from what has worked for our men's team all year, which
is good pack running," said Head Coach John Elders. "Our pack
time is normally about 30 to 45 seconds and today it was 1:27. The conditions
were very hot. We went out too fast, and the combination of the heat and
the early pace really took its toll on us. This was the kind of day we
need to forget about, and we need to focus on getting back to our early
season form as we prepare for the Big West Championships.
"It got very hot for the womens race, but I thought our women
ran real gutsy today. Its real hard to evaluate our performance
based on our times because of the unusually hot conditions, but I felt
that we ran well all things considered. With that kind of effort and a
peak performance we should have a very successful Big West Championships.
