Rare Three-Way Tie Highlights Titan Invitational
Oct. 24, 2003 – Brea, Calif.

An extremely rare three-way tie for first place in the women's race among UC Santa Barbara, Pepperdine and UCLA highlighted the Titan Invitational Cross Country Meet Friday afternoon at Carbon Canyon Park.

Each team totaled 55 points to finish ahead of Cal State San Marcos, Alliant International, Loyola Marymount and Chapman. In the men's race, Cal State San Marcos edged Alliant International ahead of Pepperdine and LMU.

Julie Swail of Cal Coast Track Club was the women's individual winner in 18:07.4 over the 5K course. Josephat Keino of Alliant won the men's 8K race in 24:55, finishing about 200 yards ahead of the field.

Host Cal State Fullerton did not compete as a team in either race as the Titans prepare for the Nov. 1 Big West Conference Championship meet at UC Riverside.

WOMEN
Team Standings: 1. (tie), UCSB, Pepperdine and UCLA at 55; 4. Cal State San Marcos at 60; 5. Alliant International at 155; 6. LMU at 174; 7. Chapman at 193.

MEN
Team Standings: 1. Cal State San Marcos at 28; 2. Alliant International at 42; Pepperdine at 54; LMU at 117.
